FAQs
No – Since 1999 legislation across Canada came in to place that eliminates the need for a doctor’s referral to access physiotherapy. This means that you can walk in and receive treatment without seeing your doctor.
However, some health benefit plans may require a doctor’s note to access your benefits.
Our primary focus is to provide you with quality one-on-one physiotherapy care. Your entire session will be spent with your physiotherapist – we do not have assistants or kinesiologists at our clinic.
Your initial assessment will be approximately an hour and will consist of a taking your health history, a thorough physical examination to determine the root-cause of your problem, and education about your condition with a clear plan of action to get you better. In most cases your initial assessment will include your first treatment. Most follow-up sessions are 25-30 minutes in length.
No. Physiotherapy is a regulated health profession and only Registered Physiotherapists can provide physiotherapy or use the title ‘physiotherapist.’ Physiotherapy training in Canada is now an entry-level Master’s degree and requires at least seven years of university study. Additionally many physiotherapists take considerable post-graduate training and may have further specializations and areas of practice.
There is definitely a time and place for all of our helping professions, but be sure that if you have been recommended to get physiotherapy that it is from a physiotherapist!
CAMPT-Certified physiotherapists are Fellows of the Canadian Academy of Manipulative Physiotherapy (FCAMPT) that have completed extensive post-graduate education and attained internationally-recognized qualifications in hands-on therapy. You can trust that a CAMPT-Certified physiotherapist is dedicated to providing the latest in research-driven care and professionalism to help patients get better, recover faster, and stay healthier.
At Coeur Physiotherapy Adam is CAMPT-Certified and provides mentoring and training for others working towards their advanced credentials. Our other therapists have completed a significant portion of the training and are working towards certification themselves.

Due to funding changes Alberta Health Services has not offered new contracts in recent years and as such our clinic does not have an Alberta Health contract at this time.
Please note that Alberta Health only covers 1-3 sessions of physiotherapy at community clinics in most circumstances. Funding is limited by location and many clinics have a 2-4 week waiting list for these funded visits.
Our clinic does not have a contract with the Worker’s Compensation Board.
The Alberta Worker’s Compensation Act requires that healthcare providers must report all injuries sustained at work if they cause significant disability. This means that we may not be able to treat you at our clinic if it is determined that your injury must be covered under the Act.
Please call or email the clinic if you have any questions as we know this can be confusing.
